FULL-TIME! Tim Sherwood's first Premier League match in charge of Tottenham ends with a highly-commendable win as they come from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 at St. Mary's. Adebayor impressed and looked like a new man in attack, while Southampton were shaky in defence. The win could have been much more comfortable for the visitors, but they will be delighted with the win regardless. Thanks for joining me today, I hope you've enjoyed the action.
90' +2
Massive chance for Saints! Spurs fail to clear a corner and the ball comes to Lambert a little further out than the penalty spot, but he hits a half-volley into the ground and it bounces over the goal.
90' +1
Five minutes of stoppage time have been added
90'
Encouraging attack for Southampton now as Lambert finds space down the right. He shapes to curl a cross into the centre, but his attempt is pretty terrible as the ball sails well over the goal.
87'
The hosts are doing their best to pile on some late pressure and Ramirez curls in a good free-kick from the right. The unchallenged Lloris punches it away, but not particularly convincingly.
85'
J. Defoe enters the game and replaces Soldado.
Schneiderlin makes the questionable decision to shoot from about 45 yards out and he misses the target with the dreadfully-poor effort.
84'
Rose has been a good outlet on the left today and he is involved in another attack. He fires in a low delivery towards Soldado, but Lovren gets in the way.
83'
Spurs are doing a good job of stifling Southampton's attackers at the moment.
80'
Penalty claims for Spurs this time. Saints fail to clear a corner and Adebayor flicks the ball towards the goal. It strikes at least one defender, but the referee does not feel there was any contact with a hand.
78'
S. Gallagher enters the game and replaces D. Fox.
Pochettino is clearly going for this now. Off comes the left-back Fox and striker Gallagher replaces him.
Minute
Description
77'
Very good pass by Ramirez as he cuts in from the right and slips a reverse pass in behind Chiriches for Lallana, but Lloris is alert and he dives at the forward's feet to get the ball.
75'
The hosts are enjoying a decent spell of control at the moment, but Spurs are looking firm at the back. The introduction of Bentaleb for Dembele, although enforced, has been inspired. The youngster has looked at home in the middle.
73'
Tentative penalty claims from Southampton as Fox hits the ball into a crowd of players just inside the Spurs area, but the referee ignores their protests.
72'
Given the chances they have missed today, Spurs will be kicking themselves ifr they don't win this.
Excellent play by Adebayor again as he runs on to a long ball and helps it back to the edge of the area for Chadli, but the Belgian's effort curls wide of the left-hand post.
70'
Soldado is getting into some excellent positions, but he just cannot finish these chances. This time he bursts into the right side of the area to collect an Adebayor pass and hits a shot into the side-netting. Admittedly, that was a tight angle, but he would have buried that at Valencia last season!
69'
G. Ramírez enters the game and replaces S. Davis.
Soldado misses again! Excellent play down the right by Chadli as he gets past Fox and crosses into the danger area, but the Spaniard hits the ball into the ground and it bounces over the crossbar.
67'
J. Ward-Prowse gets yellow.
66'
Another magnificent chance for Tottenham! Soldado is through on goal and in acres of space, but he completely misses the target. That really should have been number four for Spurs.
64'
E. Adebayor has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur! Assist by N. Chadli.
GOAL!!! Fifth goal of the match and Spurs re-take the lead as Adebayor gets his second of the game! The visitors made the most of a throw-in in an advance position on the right. Adebayor pounced on to a ricochet just inside the right side of the area before firing a low shot past Gazzaniga.
63'
J. Ward-Prowse enters the game and replaces J. Cork.
62'
What a chance for Spurs! Adebayor finds himself beyond the Southampton defence and one-on-one with Gazzaniga, but his penultimate touch is poor and the goalkeeper saves the shot when he gets it away.
61'
N. Chadli enters the game and replaces É. Lamela.
59'
R. Lambert has scored a goal for Southampton! Assist by A. Lallana.
GOAL!!! Southampton draw level! Lallana is played down the right and Lloris makes the desperately-poor decision to rush out in attempt to intercept the ball. The goalkeeper loses the race and Lallana squares to Lambert on the edge of the area and he slots into an empty net.
57'
The hosts are back on the attack in search of an immediate equaliser, but Spurs hold strong at a corner and bring the ball away well.
54'
J. Hooiveld is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
GOAL!!! Tottenham take the lead! Rose and Eriksen link up well in the left side of the area and the English full-back's low cross into the goal mouth is directed into the goal by Saint defender Hooiveld.
53'
Southampton almost create a decent opportunity as Lambert chips the ball into the area for Rodriguez. He brings the pass down with a great touch, but his second touch is heavy and Eriksen clears.
50'
N. Bentaleb enters the game and replaces M. Dembélé.
Bad news for Spurs as Dembele is forced off with what appears to be an ankle injury. On comes the inexperienced Nabil Bentaleb.
48'
Good start to the half by Spurs. Rose pulls off a clever backheel down the line for Adebayor. The forward beats Chambers and crosses low, but Lovren intercepts ahead of Soldado.
46'
Southampton get the match re-started for the second half.
45' +3
HALF-TIME! After an initial scare, Tottenham go into the break level at 1-1 thanks to Adebayor's equaliser. It has been an even contest which has seen more hard working than scintillating football, but Tim Sherwood will be relatively pleased, particularly as his side were able to respond to going behind.
45'
Three minutes of stoppage time have been added.
43'
Exquisite long-range pass from Schneiderlin releases Chambers down the right. He bursts past Rose, leaving him on his backside, but he is adjudged to take the ball out of play. That was unfortunate as that looked like a particularly dangerous attack.
40'
One particularly notable aspect of Southampton's plan in this first half has been the pressure exerted on Dembele. The Belgian has been given so little time on the ball and thus his influence has been minimal.
39'
G. Sigurðsson gets yellow.
The free-kick is delayed a little as Dembele needs medical attention, but when it is finally taken it is a bit of an anti-climax as Eriksen smashes his effort straight into the wall.
37'
Dembele does well to hold off Lambert about 35 yards from the Southampton goal, but eventually the England man fouls the midfielder.
35'
The corner is an improvement on what has come before, but Southampton are still able to clear their lines without conceding an actual goal-scoring opportunity.
34'
Another decent chance for Tottenham. Walker hits a low cross into the area and after Soldado is unable to direct it goalwards, Sigurdsson does get a shot away, but it is deflected just wide.
33'
Luckily for Lamela, Southampton play the free-kick short and ultimately waste the chance.
32'
Needless free-kick conceded by Lamela as he fouls Lovren, who was running back towards his own half.
31'
Adebayor looks to be fine as he returns to the pitch.
30'
The Togolese forward appears to be in some distress, however. It seems he is clutching his knee and needs medical attention.
27'
Adebayor now has two goals in as many games this season. He is certainly doing his best to prove a point to Villas-Boas!
25'
E. Adebayor has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur! Assist by Soldado.
GOAL!!! Tottenham equalise! Soldado was played out to the left, but the move looked to have died due to how wide he was forced. Nevertheless, the Spaniard produced a brilliant cross and Adebayor met it with a well-taken volley after squeezing between the centre-backs. Excellent finish.
24'
Again, the corner comes to nothing. The curled delivery did not have enough power on it and Southampton clear eventually.
Big chance for Southampton! Rose stumbled on the left and surrendered possession. Lallana cut the ball into the centre for Lambert, who kept it moving to left for Rodriguez. He curls a shot towards goal, but it goes narrowly over.
23'
Corner for Tottenham after a fairly tame-looking attack down the left. This is a good opportunity.
21'
More eye-catching play by Lallana, this time on the left just inside the Spurs half. The attacker produces a clever flick to cuts inside Dembele. He then holds off Lamela and clips a lofted pass to the opposite flank. Applause rings out in the stands.
19'
Naive play by Chambers as he clatters into the back of Rose, who was going nowhere in Spurs' left-back area. The visitors have a free-kick and some respite.
17'
The visitors are doing their best to string together intricate passing moves in the middle, but they just aren't clicking at the moment.
14'
Sigurdsson tries to hit back immediately as he cuts in from the left and shoots from long range, but his effort sails well over the crossbar.
13'
A. Lallana has scored a goal for Southampton! Assist by D. Fox.
GOAL!!! Southampton take the lead! After taking possession back from Adebayor, the hosts go straight down the other end and break the deadlock. Lallana received the ball in a central position, swivelled and then struck from about 20 yards, with his shot going straight into the bottom-left corner.
12'
Spurs looked to be creating a threatening counterattack, but Adebayor's first touch on the left is heavy and Lovren tackles well.
11'
Lovely move by Spurs. Lamela drops a good pass in behind the Saints defence for Soldado. The Spaniard hooks a cross into the centre, but Adebayor can't quite reach it and they have to settle for a corner.
8'
Another good cross by Southampton, this time from Lallana who fires in from the right with his left foot, but the ball is just slightly too high for Rodriguez.
7'
Good pressure by the hosts. Cork delivers an excellent cross from the left, but Rose gets a vital header in to deny Chambers a good opportunity.
6'
Lambert has been lively so far, but this times he bites off more than he can chew as he tries to beat too many Spurs men and Eriksen steals possession again.
3'
Free-kick in a good central position for Saints now after Dawson came straight through Lambert.
Lambert steps up and bends a shot over the Spurs wall, but it is easy pickings for Lloris.
2'
Eriksen drives a delivery into the area, but it is cleared easily by Southampton.
1'
Tottenham get the action started.
Tottenham win themselves an early corner as Soldado knocks the ball on to Hooiveld and out.
Hello and welcome to the live text commentary for the Premier League meeting between Southampton and Tottenham at St. Mary's. My name is Ryan Benson and I shall be describing the action for you today.
The Saints side is: Gazzaniga; Chambers, Lovren, Hooiveld, Fox; Cork, Schneiderlin, S. Davis; Lallana, Lambert, Rodriguez. SUBS: Cropper, Yoshida, Fonte, Ramírez, Ward-Prowse, Reed, Gallagher
And the Spurs team today is: Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Chriches, Rose; Lamela, Dembele, Eriksen, Sigurdsson; Adebayor, Soldado. SUBS: Friedel, Capoue, Fredericks, Bentaleb, Holtby, Chadli, Defoe.
Southampton have numerous players missing from their starting XI today, with Nathaniel Clyne, Luke Shaw and Pablo Osvaldo all missing from the squad, while Jose Fonte and James Ward-Prowse have only made it on to the bench.
Spurs, meanwhile, are still managerless after the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas on Monday. Tim Sherwood will take charge of his first Premier League match as caretaker manager despite losing to West Ham in the Capital One Cup quarter-final during the week. Today he has named a very attack-minded team, with two forwards starting as well as a rather offensive midfield.
Tottenham can take a little inspiration from their two Premier League meetings with Southampton last season, beating them home and away.
Saints' league form coming into this match is hardly impressive, either. They've not won any of their last five games in the top flight, drawing two and losing the other three.
The two teams are now out on the pitch. Kick-off is just a few moments away.
