SLAMMED OVER THE BAR! For the second time, Leverkusen miss the target with a penalty and that spells doom for them! Atletico are through!
120' +8
TORRES HAS DONE IT! Guided perfectly into the bottom-right side, with Leno's dive to that side not enough!
120' +7
AND HE DOES! Drilled with power and precision! No chance for Oblak!
MAGNIFICENT SAVE FROM LENO! Koke hammers it to the bottom-left corner, but the keeper thwarts it with a splendid dive!
Minute
Description
120' +6
THAT WAS DREADFUL! He skies it into orbit to a loud cheer from the home fans. Atletico have the advantage!
120' +5
EXCELLENTLY DONE! Rolfes buries it in almost the exact same spot as Griezmann. One-one on the shootout now.
HE BURIES IT! High and to his right, with Leno unable to keep it out!
120' +4
THERE WE GO! Slammed high into the net. Leno guesses correctly but there was no stopping that stinger!
120' +3
TERRIBLE PENALTY! He practically passed it right down the middle, and Oblak stands his ground, saving easily!
OVER THE BAR! Massive miss from Garcia, who spoons it above the crossbar! What a waste.
120' +2
Both benches empty onto the pitch to strategize for the shootout. It's incredibly tense out there. It's purely a battle of wills and composure now.
120' +1
And that will be that. Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen will have to be separated by a penalty shootout.
119'
Torres gets the fans excited for a second after racing against Wendell into the box, but he's eventually crowded out, committing a foul in his attempts to hold up the ball. The Brazilian full-back then goes down with cramp.
118'
Time running really thin now if these teams want to avoid a penalty shootout. Both sides have had a good chance to score in the added period. Who wants a quarter-final place more?
116'
Garcia has made a positive impact since coming off the bench, and he clips a ball in for Torres from the right. The former Liverpool and Chelsea man attacks it with a header, but Leno was never troubled at his near post.
114'
In a development that will shock not one single Bundesliga fan, Papadopoulos gets booked by the referee. He tugged back Griezmann rather blatantly to prevent a burst into space.
113'
K. Papadopoulos gets yellow.
112'
THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SENSATIONAL! Rolfes spots Oblak taking his eye off the ball for one second, and decides to go for goal from all of 40 yards! The substitute keeper scrambles to cover and watches the ball move just wide of the post!
110'
Fernando Torres gets yellow.
Torres gets caught up in the emotion of this game and protests a call, after he felt that Atleti should have had a corner, when the officials signalled for a goal kick. Replays show that he had a strong case, but all he gets is a booking for dissent.
108'
WHAT A CHANCE AND WHAT A SAVE! Turan slips a clever pass inside the box for Garcia, whose first touch manufactures space in front of Papadopoulos, allowing him to lash a ferocious effort on goal that Leno parries out for a corner! Excellent play all around!
106'
Home stretch now, folks. The referee gets us started for the last time.
105'
And that will do it for the first half of extra time.
We'll have the shortest of breaks, just enough time for a quick drink and a word in the ear.
104'
K. Papadopoulos enters the game and replaces L. Bender.
103'
Kiessling is carded for protesting a call. Meanwhile, Leverkusen prep another change on the touchline, with Bender set to be replaced by Kyriakos Papadopoulos. Anyone who has seen the mad Greek play knows that he'll relish the combative nature of this contest.
102'
S. Kießling gets yellow.
101'
You can tell that fatigue is starting to set in for both sets of players. Balls that were once inviting avenues for overlaps are no longer being chased with the same intensity.
99'
Atletico have committed a few unforgivable turnovers in the Leverkusen half. Los Rojiblancos look incredibly disjointed, and even danger-man Griezmann has barely had a look in for a while.
97'
Leverkusen are growing into this contest, and it's only taken them about 100 minutes to do so! They've looked the more composed side in extra time, as more of the action is being played out in the Atletico half.
95'
Kiessling lashes one right down the throat of Oblak, who sparks Atletico on the break instantly. Torres attempts to get goal-side of Spahic and goes down under the pressure, but it was never a foul.
93'
So, extra time has picked up where regulation left off, with both teams showing no restraint in the challenge. Despite all the hard fouls, there really hasn't been much malice between the players, which is always good to see.
91'
We're off again! Tired legs and tired minds abound - who will come out on top?
90' +5
The referee makes it official. We're heading for extra time.
90' +3
Atletico haul in a long throw, and Leno comes out, just managing to get a punch on the ball. Gamez then fouls his man as he chases up the loose ball. Leverkusen free-kick and that may just take this one into extra time.
90' +1
Into the first of four added minutes as Koke's corner is dealt with by Toprak at the near post. Leverkusen have been a lot more accomplished aerially in this half, with Atleti not able to threaten often.
89'
Wendell gets yellow.
Wendell clatters into Torres, leading to a terrible roar of disgust from the stands, and a yellow card for the Bundesliga side's full-back. We're on the cusp of injury time now.
87'
Schmidt is starting to follow the example of Simeone. He's now angrily contesting the decisions that have gone against his side. How much would you put on one of the coaches being dismissed by the officials here?
85'
Atletico are starting to ramp up the pressure in the final minutes to get that crucial goal. I doubt that either side will fancy an extra 30 minutes of toil with the season's run in about to commence.
83'
Fernando Torres enters the game and replaces M. Mandžukić.
The Vicente Calderon stands in appreciation as their favourite son Torres comes on for Mandzukic. Practically everyone, me included, had written the striker off prior to his Atleti return in January, but he's been quite clutch with his goals, including strikes against Barcelona and Real Madrid.
81'
LEVERKUSEN ESCAPE! Griezmann does well to play a pass into Turan, who fires an effort down the throat of Leno! However, the keeper can't keep a hold of the ball and there's a moment of panic before the defence clears the danger!
79'
It's just a yellow-card fiesta at the moment inside the Vicente Calderon! Not for the first time in this game, Calhanoglu and Gamez battle for the ball, with the former cutting down the latter. The referee gets that trusty card out once again.
78'
H. Çalhanoğlu gets yellow.
77'
S. Rolfes enters the game and replaces Son Heung-Min.
Son, who had one or two dangerous moments in the first half, is replaced after fading from contention after the interval. Rolfes enters the fray for the final stretch of regulation time.
76'
75'
Mario Suárez gets yellow.
Calhanoglu is upended by Suarez, leading to yet another booking here. If this match goes into extra time, will we end it with 22 players on the pitch? Chances remain at a premium in this half.
73'
Kiessling, only moments on the pitch, is given a rousing welcome by Gamez, who takes him out with a late challenge. The referee doesn't hesitate and flashes the yellow card in his direction.
72'
Jesús Gámez gets yellow.
71'
WAS THAT THE CHANCE? Koke picks out a typically accurate ball into the box, and it flashes menacingly across the face of goal, just missing the vital connection from Garcia at the back post!
69'
S. Kießling enters the game and replaces J. Drmić.
It's a real slog in midfield out there, which isn't the worst thing for either side. You'd still fancy Atleti if this goes to extra time, but Leverkusen are very much in this given the weight of the away goal - if they manage to score one, that is.
67'
Again we have a player take some time to get to his feet following a challenge, as Spahic feels the worst of an aerial challenge with Mandzukic. He looks like he'll be able to soldier on though.
65'
Ö. Toprak gets yellow.
Toprak finally gets booked after walking a tightrope over a series of warnings for the majority of the game. He flattens Turan, conceding a free-kick which Atleti can't profit from.
63'
Still a captivating atmosphere inside this stadium, but you can feel the tension start to seep in among certain sections of the support. Leverkusen are in a good position here, as even another Atleti goal would mean nothing if they score.
61'
Leverkusen are just allowing Atletico to have the ball, and they've done a much better job in this half in terms of forcing the danger away from their goal. Getting congested out there.
59'
Bellarabi, not for the first time in this game, tries his luck from range, but Oblak is all over his effort. Leverkusen will need to do a lot better than that if they're to avoid extra time, which is starting to look like a real possibility here at the Vicente Calderon.
57'
Not a whole lot of chances to start the second half, but there is some concern for Leverkusen as Griezmann races down the left-hand side to put pressure on Castro, but Spahic hacks away the resulting delivery.
55'
Calhanoglu falls dramatically to the floor against Gimenez, but the referee doesn't buy it. He's lucky that he doesn't get a booking for simulation, and he smiles ruefully on the turf.
53'
Mandzukic did suffer that injury just before half-time, and if I was to guess, he would be the player whose departure is imminent. This will be Atletico's third and final change, with almost 40 minutes to go, plus stoppage time and a potential extra half-hour.
51'
Atletico have a host of subs warming up on the sideline, but the 11 men on the pitch are doing just fine to start the second half. Leverkusen's two attempts to make inroads in the Colchoneros' half have both ended in them committing fouls.
49'
The home fans haven't been shy in bellowing their discontent at any percieved infraction suffered by their side. Hilbert simply body checks Gamez, leading to a free kick, although Simeone's reaction suggests that he thinks there should be further punishment.
47'
Raul Garcia has replaced Cani, with that alteration presenting an interesting tactical swap for Atleti. It's not clear yet whether Garcia will simply pop up in the vacated right-wing slot, or if the hosts will shift to a three-man midfield, with Griezmann slotting in behind the substitute and Mandzukic.
46'
Raúl García enters the game and replaces Cani.
Here we go again!
45' +2
Mandzukic is the latest player to go down and stay that way. He's writhing in agony, and needs some treatment. You get the feeling that Simeone will want the physios to examine him at the interval before pulling the trigger on another enforced substitution.
45'
OBLAK IS A RELIEVED MAN! Son advances through a surprising gap at the top of the box and squeezes a delicate pass for Wendell on the overlap. He, in turn, flashes it to the near post, but Miranda is there to greet Dmric, and the ball stops in its tracks, giving the Atleti keeper the chance to pounce!
43'
Leverkusen simply have no answer to the suffocating Atletico pressing. They've tried to make a late stand to attempt to muster a chance or two before the interval, but the hosts have forced them into a series of sideways and backwards passes.
41'
Bellarabi will be able to proceed for now after getting patched up. Half-time is fast approaching and this tie is dead level on aggregate. Extra time beckons if this scoreline endures, although with the way that Atleti have been knocking at the door, I doubt that we'll be here for an extra half-hour.
39'
Play is stopped for the moment as Bellarabi goes down, with the referee immediately signalling for the Leverkusen medical staff to attend to him. He was felled by an excellent Koke challenge, with no hint of a foul.
37'
Challenges continue to fly in, and Atleti continue to rack up set-pieces. Griezmann is starting to run on the ball more and is drawing fouls left and right. Dangerous waters for Leverkusen to navigate.
35'
The home side continue to be encouraged by Leverkusen's propensity to give away free kicks in their own defensive half. Pretty much anything inside the halfway line is as good as a corner as far as the aerially dominant Atleti are concerned.
33'
Really enticing tempo to this game now, although it's the home side enjoying all of the momentum. Leverkusen would do well to get this game to the half-time break at just 1-0.
31'
GREAT OPENING! Turan gets his ruler out to measure a perfect pass inside the full-back for Mandzukic to chase, but just before he's about to pull the trigger, Wendell comes in with a VITAL challenge to snuff out the danger!
30'
J. Giménez gets yellow.
29'
Gimenez, as he is wont to do every now and then, goes in with a late, full-blooded challenge, upending Calhanoglu. He's lucky that the foul wasn't in shooting range, because we all know that the Turk can hit them in from almost anywhere! Yellow card for the Atleti man.
27'
Mario Suárez has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Cani.
ATLETICO GET THE GOAL THEY CRAVE! No surprise to see that one originate from a set-piece. Leverkusen can't win the headers that they need to from Koke's free-kick delivery, and Cani works the ball to Suarez, whose shot from just inside the box looks to have taken a nick off Toprak en route to beating Leno!
26'
E. Spahić gets yellow.
Spahic gets carded here for a bad foul on Cani. He'll now walk a tightrope for the rest of this game, and now los Rojiblancos have a good chance to cause problems from this set-piece about 25 yards out.
24'
Oblak is leaving the goalkicks to his defenders initially, clearly wanting to take no chances in succumbing to another freak injury. Atleti have generally shown more purpose in the final third so far.
23'
J. Oblak enters the game and replaces Moyà.
22'
Moya is attended to by the physios, who manage to get him to his feet. The goalkeeper, who has started 35 of Atleti's 42 games this season, takes his sweet time to hobble off, allowing Jan Oblak time to warm up on the touchline. The substitution is imminent.
20'
Trouble here for poor Moya, who pulls up immediately clutching the back of his thigh. He went down to gather a routine ball and looked to have tweaked his left hammy on the way to the floor. I seriously doubt that he'll be able to continue.
18'
Eight red cards for Atletico in all competitions this season, including one for Miranda in their last Liga outing on Saturday, and another for Tiago in the first leg of this round of 16 tie. Part and parcel of their no-holds-barred approach, and an extension of their coach's personality.
16'
Koke rather wastes that set-piece opportunity. He appeared to be caught in two minds, not clipping it in for a teammate to attack, nor really getting any direction or power on it to seriously test Leno, who plucks it out of the air with complete ease.
15'
Mandzukic battles with Toprak and is fouled about 35 yards out. That looks like the last warning already for the combative Turk. Dangerous position to give away a free-kick, especially against what is probably the best aerial side in the world on the offensive end.
13'
Simeone hasn't stopped gesticulating on the sidelines since the first whistle. As usual, you won't expect him to accept anything less than 100 per cent from the 11 men out there. To be fair, they've started with plenty of energy, if a little lacking in execution.
11'
NARROWLY WIDE OF THE POST! Bellarabi is allowed some surprising space at the top of the area, and lets fly with a low effort that flashes agonizingly wide of the woodwork! First glimpse of goal for either side.
9'
Dmric and Miranda are already shaping up to have a right old battle during this match. It looks like the Brazilian has been tasked with keeping tabs on the unpredictable Leverkusen forward.
7'
It's been an incredibly scrappy start to the match, with neither team willing to let any loose balls stay that way for long. There's been some roughhousing already, and I bet we see a yellow card before too long.
5'
Atletico try to force some early pressure in the opposition end, with Griezmann losing the ball after trying to take on too many players. Meanwhile, the camera has confirmed that Pep Guardiola is in the house tonight.
3'
Simeone demanded a cauldron of noise for this game, with his side simply needing to score. And the fans have obliged with a firey display of support in the opening minutes.
1'
Off we go then!
Good evening and welcome to tonight's LIVE coverage of the Champions League last-16 second leg between Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen. Last season's runners-up trail 1-0 to the German side due to Hakan Calhanoglu's first-leg goal, and they'll have the Vicente Calderon cheering them on as they look to overturn that and secure a place in the quarter-finals tonight.
ATLETI TEAM NEWS: The hosts are unable to call upon either Tiago or Diego Godin, both of whom are serving suspensions this evening. Jose Gimenez therefore partners Miranda in the centre of defence, while Cani is given a rare start in midfield. Raul Garcia, Gabi and Fernando Torres all move to the bench after starting the draw with Espanyol in midweek, with Arda Turan, Mario Suarez and Mario Mandzukic all coming in.
LEVERKUSEN TEAM NEWS: Emir Spahic comes into the centre of defence at the expense of Kyriakos Papadopoulos. The experienced Simon Rolfes drops to the bench in Roger Schmidt's only other change, and his replacement is Lars Bender. Josip Drmic leads the line with Stefan Kiessling having to settle for a place among the substitutes.
Atleti's defeat at the BayArena started a four-game winless run which has seen Diego Simeone's men drop out of the top three in La Liga. Leverkusen, meanwhile, have won all four of their matches since the first-leg triumph over the Spanish side, though they did need extra time to eliminate Kaiserslautern in the DFB-Pokal last 16 earlier this month.
The Werkself managed a 1-1 draw on their last visit to the Vicente Calderon, which came in the 2010-11 Europa League Group Stage. A similar result tonight would see them into the next round!
And that will do it for the first half. A quite absorbing game of football, with Atletico getting the goal that they needed, via Suarez, to bring the tie level on aggregate. Los Rojiblancos have dominated this clash physically and in terms of general attacking threat. Leverkusen will need to score at some point if they want to avoid this encounter going to extra time and potentially penalties. The second half promises to be a cracker. Stay tuned.
Well, the end of a marathon has seen the Germans dumped out on penalties! Leverkusen missed three spot-kicks en route to crashing out, and their despair is palpable on the pitch. Atletico join their fans in a celebration borne out of passion, joy and a fair dose of relief! They will now enter the hat for the quarter-final draw.
That will be it from me, I've been Keeghann Sinanan and it's been a blast!
