We're underway in Salzburg.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Europa League quarter-final second-leg clash between Salzburg and Lazio at the Red Bull Arena Salzburg.
Salzburg will have confidence of advancing after notching two away goals. Valon Berisha and Takumi Minamino got on the scoresheet in Rome and their strikes could be crucial come the end of the tie. Marco Rose’s men were not able to respond from their defeat to Lazio in their domestic duties last week, losing 1-0 to LASK Linz on the road. Rose will be demanding a stronger performance this tonight to overturn the deficit and advance to the last four of the competition.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Lazio are in command, but will have had one eye on the comebacks that have taken place in the Champions League this week. Their bitter rivals Roma knocked Barcelona out of Europe’s elite tournament, therefore Inzaghi and his side have to be wary. The Italian outfit kept themselves on course for a top-four place in Serie A, defeating Udinese last time out thanks to goals from Immobile and Luis Alberto. Control will be the name of the game from I Biancocelesti tonight.
SALZBURG (4-3-1-2): Alexander Walke; Stefan Lanier, Andre Ramalho, Duje Caleta-Car, Andreas Ulmer; Amadou Haidara, Xaver Schlager, Valon Berisha; Reinhold Yabo; Hwang Hee-Chan, Munas Dabbur.
Salzburg subs: Cican Stankovic, Hannes Wolf, Takumi Minamino, Fredrik Gulbrandsen, Patrick Farkas, Marin Pongracic, Marin Pongracic.
LAZIO (3-5-2): Thomas Strakosha; Luiz Felipe, Stefan de Vrij, Stefan Radu; Dusan Basta, Marco Parolo, Lucas Leiva, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Senad Lulic; Luis Alberto, Ciro Immobile.
Lazio subs: Jordan Lukaku, Nani, Felipe Anderson, Felipe Caicedo, Martin Caceres, Guido Guerrieri, Alessandro Murgia.
Salzburg have made five changes from their defeat to LASK Linz last time out. Lanier, Caleta-Car, Berisha, Yabo and Dabbur come into the fold this evening.
Lazio have made three changes from their win over Udinese in Serie A last weekend. Radu, Basta and Parolo all return to action for Inzaghi's men this evening in an expected 3-5-2 formation.
HALF-TIME: SALZBURG 0-0 LAZIO
It's goalless after 45 minutes of action in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final clash between Salzburg and Lazio. The result at the moment will suit the Italian just fine as they would advance to the semi-finals. Simone Inzaghi's men have come the closest to scoring through Ciro Immobile just before half-time, only for the forward to be denied by Alexander Walke. The home side have enjoyed greater possession than the visitors, but have not threatened a great deal in the final third. That will have to change to the tune of two goals in the second period to reach the last four.
It’s advantage Lazio heading into the contest this evening as the Italian outfit secured a 4-2 win in the first leg. The two sides traded blows in the opening 71 minutes of the game as Salzburg came from behind twice at the Stadio Olimpico. However, late strikes from Felipe Anderson and Ciro Immobile handed Simone Inzaghi’s men a two-goal lead.
FULL-TIME: SALZBURG (6) 4-1 (5) LAZIO
In a week of incredible comebacks Salzburg produce a special one of their own to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League. Ciro Immobile's opener for Lazio appeared to have put the Italian outfit on course for the last four, taking a three-goal advantage. However, Munas Dabbur responded with a strike before a crazy six-minute spell decided the game. After Luis Alberto missed a glorious opening to effectively kill off the match Amadou Haidara found the net from distance. Hwang Hee-Chan then put Salzburg ahead in the tie with a deflected effort after the visitors' defence collapsed. There was turmoil once again in the Lazio box, allowing Stefan Lainer to notch his side's fourth goal to send them through. Marcel Rose's men were outstanding when it mattered the most, while Simone Inzaghi and his team wilted as the worst possible moment.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
