James put the ball in the perfect area for Sanches to sprint onto it and fire the ball into the back of the net.
GOOOAAALLL! Bayern double their lead, it's 2-0! It's Renato Sanches with the goal, scoring against his former club and he receives warm applause from the home supporters now, despite scoring against them. He started the move off, sprinting forward with the ball from the edge of his own area, shrugs off a couple of challenges before picking out Lewandowksi, he crosses it to James in the penalty area, who chips the ball into the area and Sanches fires it home. Lovely move and goal.

40'
GREAT CHANCE! Robben with a superb opportunity to double Bayern's lead just before the break. Not long left to play until the break now, can Benfica level the scoreline before half time or will Bayern manage to extend their lead?
36'
It looks very comfortable for Bayern at the moment, playing it across the defence and midfield, making Benfica chase the ball. They'll then play a quick long ball up to Lewandowski or Robben to catch up with, which appears to be catching Benfica off guard.
34'
Robben is played through on goal, but as he races through he goes down, perhaps clipping the heels of his marker and appeals for a foul. However, the referee is not interested and allows play to continue, thus giving Benfica time to clear the danger.
32'

Bayern enjoying plenty of success down the wings, with Robben and Ribery both cutting inside and looking to shoot.

J. Kimmich gets yellow.
Kimmich is shown the first yellow card of the game, after a coming together with Cervi. The referee is indicating that a swinging arm hit the face of Cervi, much to the fury of the Bayern man.
16'
Bayern look dangerous on the counter, they are breaking forward with great pace and it is causing the Benfica defence a lot of problems. They're enjoying more of the ball, but they seem to be lacking an attacking threat up top with the visitors defence looking comfortable.
14'
CHANCE BAYERN! Robben is played through one on one by a lovely ball by Kimmich, but Vlachodimos is quickly off his line to put the Bayern winger under pressure and force him to shoot wide. Great opportunity to double their lead.

6'
Despite their early possession, Bayern haven't been able to create any chances as of yet and it's an even game at the moment, with Benfica starting to grow into the game.
4'

Bayern are dominating the early possession here, playing it neatly around the pitch but Benfica are pressing high and not allowing the visitors time to venture into their half of the pitch. Plenty of early touches on the ball for the Bayern back four and goalkeeper.

We're underway!
Good evening and welcome to our LIVE match commentary of the Champions League clash between Benfica and Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich begin their Group E Champions League campaign tonight with a trip to Portugal to face Benfica. The German giants made it to the semi-finals last year, beaten by eventual winners Real Madrid, whilst Benfica failed to progress from the group stages, finishing bottom of their group.
The German giants are currently in great form under new manager Niko Kovac, who replaced Jupp Heynckes in the summer. They are the only team to win all three of their opening games in this season's Bundesliga and therefore sit top of the table.
Rui Vitoria's team managed just one goal and failed to pick up a single point during the group stages of this competition last season. However, they are also in good form as they top the Portuguese top division, winning three out of their opening four games.
BENFICA SUBS: Mile Svilar, German Conti, Alfa Semedo, Gabriel Pires, Andrija Zivkovic, Rafa, Nicolas Castillo
BAYERN (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer (GK & C), Joshua Kimmich, Jermone Boateng, Mats Hummels, David Alaba; Javi Martinez, Renato Sanches; Arjen Robben, James Rodriguez, Franck Ribéry; Robert Lewandowski.
BAYERN SUBS: Sven Ulreich, Sandro Wagner, Niklas Sule, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Müller, Serge Gnabry, Paul Will
This will be the first meeting between Benfica and Bayern Munich since the 2015-16 Champions League campaign, when the Portuguese side were beaten 2-3 on aggregate in a quarter-final tie.
The teams are out and kick-off is just moments away, stay tuned for all of the match action!
Bayern lead 1-0 at the break after Lewandowski's early goal, but the visitors had more chances to increase their lead and put the game out of sight. Robben with two excellent chances, but took slightly too long on the ball which allowed Vlachodimos time to make a couple good stops, to keep it at a single goal.
Benfica grew into the game after chasing much of the early stages of the match. Salvio forced Neuer into a strong save at his near post, but they haven't tested the Bayern goalkeeper enough this evening, despite a strong performance. Improvement needed in the final third if Benfica are to come away with anything from this game.
That's all from us tonight folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Bayern will face Ajax at home in their next Champions League game, whilst Benfica will travel to Greece to play AEK Athens, a game that they'll hope to take some points out of. They have now failed to score in their last six Champions League games, which will be their main worry.
Bayern secure a 2-0 victory over Benfica thanks to goals from Lewandowski and Renato Sanches, but they could and should have scored more, with plenty of chances throughout for the visitors. Benfica played well tonight, but lacked an attacking threat up top, with their best chance falling to Dias, his header was tipped over the bar superbly by Neuer.
