Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Bournemouth.
Newcastle finally got their first win of the season last weekend. The Magpies rode their luck at times, but that victory at least releases some of the pressure. Another positive result here should give Rafael Benitez’s side a bit of breathing space from the bottom three.
Bournemouth have made a fantastic start to the season and are currently sixth. They were unlucky to lose late on at home to Manchester United last weekend but have won their last two on the road without conceding a goal. Eddie Howe’s side are already 14 points clear of the relegation zone and look set for a comfortable season.
Let's take a look at the two teams for this afternoon, starting with the home side.
NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-4-1-1): Martin Dubravka; DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez, Paul Dummett; Matt Ritchie, Ki Sung-yueng, Mohamed Diame, Kenedy; Ayoze Perez; Salomon Rondon.
SUBS: Joselu, Isaac Hayden, Karl Darlow, Jacob Murphy, Javier Manquillo, Ciaran Clark, Christian Atsu.
BOURNEMOUTH (4-4-1-1): Asmir Begovic; Simon Francis, Steve Cook, Nathan Ake, Adam Smith; Jordon Ibe, Lewis Cook, Jefferson Lerma, Ryan Fraser; David Brooks; Callum Wilson.
SUBS: Charlie Daniels, Marc Pugh, Artur Boruc, Andrew Surman, Jermain Defoe, Dan Gosling, Lys Mousset.
Newcastle hold a 2-1 lead at half-time at St James' Park thanks to Rondon's first two goals for the club. The Magpies got a brilliant start with Rondon scoring his first in the seventh minute and were looking pretty comfortable when he scored his second. Bournemouth fought back late in the half, though, and Lerma got them back into the match with a stoppage time header.
Benitez will be delighted with Newcastle's performance so far. They have looked dangerous whenever they have attacked with Kenedy, Perez and Ritchie all getting involved in the final third. Howe will be very concerned with Bournemouth's defending, particularly down the left, where Kenedy got far too much time on the ball for the second goal. The visitors could bring Defoe off the bench to add some extra firepower as they push for an equaliser.
Thanks for joining our coverage today. Until next time, goodbye.
Benitez will be able to relax during the international break after this win. The Magpies are up to 14th, and travel to Burnley for their next Premier League match. Bournemouth have tough fixtures coming up, with Arsenal and Manchester City in their next two matches.
