Description

Spurs look like the most likely team to score. When they get the ball they are determined to run at the Barcelona defence and they have all their flair players on the pitch now.

A corner for Spurs is taken by Lamela. Kane’s header is blocked by Miranda on the line and then Kane’s follow-up shot is blocked as well! Spurs are getting closer!!!
65'
With Busquets and Messi on the field now, it looks like a more familiar and stronger Barcelona team. But they still have some weaker players in defence for Spurs to target.
63'
L. Messi enters the game and replaces M. El Haddadi.
Just when you thought it was tough going already…Messi comes on for El Haddidi.
61'
É. Lamela enters the game and replaces K. Walker-Peters.
It looks like Spurs could be about to make a change.
And is this Messi stripping off?!
Lamela comes on for Walker-Peters; this will mean a change of formation or a new right back for Spurs. Sissoko looks like the man to drop into defence.
58'
Another chance for Spurs! Sissoko plays the ball into Eriksen, who lays a pass onto Son. He shifts the ball onto his left foot on the edge of the area and shoots toward the bottom-left corner. It doesn’t have the power to trouble Cillessen.
55'
Dembele shows extraordinary pace to glide away from two Spurs defenders on the right and into the area, he cuts back a speculative ball to the edge of the box where Coutinho is lurking. He takes a touch and fires a shot toward goal but Walker-Peters throws himself in the way to block the effort.
53'
That is three chances in five minutes for Spurs at the start of this second half.
52'
Kane sprints away from the Barcelona defence on the right this time. He doesn’t have anyone with him so descends on goal, he has an early shot with his right foot which sails high over Cillessen’s bar.

Kane bursts forward for Spurs on the left, when he gets to the Barcelona box he cuts back onto his right and sends the ball across to Eriksen. His shot is blocked and so is Alli’s follow-up effort.
49'
CLOSE! The ball is played into Kane in attack for Spurs. He cushions the ball into the path of Eriksen who has a shot from 20 yards out to the left-corner of the goal. Cillessen is able to push the shot round his post for a corner.
48'
Busquets has fitted seamlessly into the Barcelona midfield alongside Alena and Arthur. Not a bad replacement to be able to bring on!
46'
Sergio Busquets enters the game and replaces I. Rakitić.
It looks like Rakitic picked up an injury in that first half. He is replaced at half time by Busquets.
The referee blows his whistle to get the second half underway.
45' +1
HALF-TIME: BARCELONA 1-0 TOTTENHAM.
44'
This time Son runs at the Barcelona defence. He attempts a deft little ball to Kane who would have been through on goal if Vermaelen hadn't stuck out a leg to intercept.
39'
Son is being left upfront by Spurs on his own with Kane dropping deep to help out his midfield.
37'
Spurs have had a really strong last 10 minutes. They weathered the Barcelona storm and then found a way to trouble them with some good attacking moves.
31'
A free-kick for Spurs on the left corner of the Barcelona box is struck by Kane. It is another poor free-kick from Spurs though; this one goes straight into the wall.
30'
CLOSE! Eriksen runs at the Barcelona defence and looks to his left to see Rose in acres of space. He finds the left back with a perfectly waited pass and Rose sends a low ball, first time, from the left across the six-yard box. Son sticks out a leg, but is just inches away and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
28'
Dembele has the ball on the edge of the Spurs box and flicks the ball with the back of his heel to the waiting Alena. Alena has a shot left-footed from 20 yards out which is deflected over the bar.
24'

22'
Rose hacks down Semedo to concede a free-kick on the Barcelona right. It is taken by Dembele, sending a high ball to the back post. Kane is there to head the ball away.
20'
Sissoko has been Spurs’ brightest player so far; he runs at the Barcelona defence and finds Son. The attack fizzles out, but that is more encouraging from the away side.
18'
It’s going to be a long evening for Walker-Peters now. He’s on a booking and he has to mark Coutinho.
16'
Walker-Peters drags Miranda to the floor on the Barcelona left, conceding a free-kick and gets the first yellow card of the night.
15'
K. Walker-Peters gets yellow.
Coutinho tries his luck from 30 yards with a dipping strike from the left. It lacks any real power and Lloris saves easily.
13'
Barcelona are controlling the play after that goal. They don’t seem in any rush to attack, happy to pass it around defence and midfield, just waiting for any opportunity.
9'
Just what Spurs didn't want, but at least they have a long time to put it right!
7'
O. Dembélé has scored a goal for Barcelona!
GOAL! A hammer blow for Spurs, as Barcelona take the lead. A Spurs free-kick is headed clear by Barcelona and Dembele receives the ball in his own half. He runs at Walker-Peters, beats him easily and sprints into the Spurs box. Dembele descends on Lloris and just as he looks like he is going to hit it with his right foot, he cuts inside a diving Winks and slots a left-footed shot past the keeper to make it 1-0.
4'
Spurs are pressing well early on, especially though Sissoko and Alli. They obviously want to disrupt Barcelona as much as possible and prevent them controlling the game.
2'
Winks robs Rakitic of the ball early on in midfield. That will be a key battle tonight.
1'
The referee blows his whistle and we are underway.
Good evening and welcome to our live commentary of Barcelona against Tottenham in the Champions League.
Barcelona are already through to the knockout stages of the competition as group winners so the pressure is off them tonight. For Spurs, however, their situation is more complicated. Mauricio Pochettino’s team are currently second in Group B, equal on points with Inter, so they need to equal or better their result against PSV. Spurs have a better head-to-head compared to Inter, so a draw could be enough to progress tonight.
Both these teams come into the game tonight off the back of wins at the weekend; Barcelona saw off Espanyol 4-0 in La Liga while Spurs beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Premier League.
So let's take a look at the two teams tonight.
BARCELONA (4-3-3): Jasper Cillessen; Nelson Semedo, Juan Miranda, Clement Lenglet, Thomas Vermaelen; Arthur, Ivan Rakitic, Carles Alena; Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Munir El Haddadi.
SUBS: Paulo Gazzaniga, Olver Skipp, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Lucas Moura, Fernando Llorente, Erik Lamela.
TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Hugo Lloris; Kyle Walker-Peters, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose; Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks; Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min; Harry Kane.
The teams are out on the pitch and we are almost ready for kick-off!
Barcelona go into the break 1-0 up thanks to Dembele’s fantastic solo effort which means Spurs are on the back foot, but they can take plenty of positives from their first half performance. Both sides have created chances with Barcelona also hitting the post late on and Son spurning Spurs’ best chance of the half when through on goal. The half has been an even one and this game isn’t done yet!
You feel that the next goal will be crucial in this game; if Barcelona get a two-goal advantage there shouldn’t be any way back for Spurs, but if Spurs can take one of their chances, they will then have a fantastic chance of going on to claim all three points. This is not the strongest Barcelona side we have ever seen in the Champions League so they are almost there for the taking, but remember that a certain Lionel Messi is waiting on the bench!
That is all for tonight, goodbye!
Both these teams can enjoy their Christmas and New Year now, waiting for the Champions League to return in 2019. They will find out their next round opponents when the draw is made later this month. Barcelona’s next game is on Sunday away at Levante while Tottenham are at home to Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
