Referee Danny Makkelie blows his whistle, and Porto get us underway at the Estadio do Dragao!
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of this Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash as Porto host Liverpool at the Estadio do Dragao!
Currently trailing 2-0 from last week’s first leg, which was their first loss in all competitions in over a month, Porto would have to do extremely well to upset the odds and qualify at the expense of arguably Europe’s most in-form side. However, Sergio Conceicao will have the luxury of welcoming back several key players which were missing at Anfield and will implore his players to go all out for the unlikely victory despite their own title aspirations, only trailing Benfica at the Primeira Liga summit on goal difference.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will be riding a huge wave of confidence after their 2-0 win against Chelsea which put the Reds back on top of the Premier League. With a busy Premier League schedule ahead of the title challengers, Klopp may be tempted to rest several regulars, but given the stage and the occasion it is doubtful that he will be leaving some star names out of his starting XI.
And without further ado, let’s take a look at how both sides line up, starting with the hosts.
LIVERPOOL XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; James Milner (c), Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum; Mohamed Salah, Divock Origi, Sadio Mane.
SUBSTITUTES: Andre Pereira, Fernando, Tiquinho Soares, Vana Alves, Oliver Torres, Maxi Pereira, Bruno Costa.
PORTO XI (3-4-3): Iker Casillas; Felipe, Pepe, Eder Militao; Jesus Manuel Corona, Hector Herrera (c), Danilo Pereira, Alex Telles; Yacine Brahimi, Moussa Marega, Otavio.
SUBSTITUTES: Joe Gomez, Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge, Naby Keita, Simon Mignolet, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson.
The players are out and kick-off is drawing near.
With Liverpool now having a firm grip on the tie and one hand into the semi-finals, Klopp will want to see this match out with no new injury worries as they have one eye on their Premier League title challenge which resumes on the weekend. As for Porto, Conceicao knows they now have an uphill battle on their hands, but their first-half performance highlighted their offensive threat and more of the same could expose more defensive frailties from the away side.
And that wraps up our coverage. We hope you enjoyed our commentary, and until next time, goodbye!
Before Liverpool play their first leg against Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona on Tuesday 30th of April, they must contend with matters closer to home with their next league assignment at Cardiff City on Sunday. As for Porto, they also resume domestic duties at the Estadio do Dragao against Santa Clara a day prior.
