Referee Mike Dean blows his whistle, and Arsenal get us underway at Bramall Lane!
Hello, and welcome to our LIVE coverage of this Premier League match as Sheffield United host Arsenal at Bramall Lane!
Newly promoted Sheffield United are not only searching for their third league win of the campaign, but are also in dire need of goals after not having scored in four of their last five competitive matches. Despite a narrow loss to league leaders Liverpool in their last home game, Chris Wilder’s 15th-placed Blades should still take some encouragement from that match as they were the better side for large spells, and a similar performance may get them a morale-boosting victory which would see them leapfrog the likes of Everton, Manchester United, and Wolves up the table and into the top 10 on points.
Despite not having won away from the Emirates Stadium since the opening weekend of the campaign, Arsenal enter this fixture with an eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions. A victory for Unai Emery’s fifth-placed Gunners against one of the league’s meanest defences will see them prop up the table to third, but it won’t be easy against a side who will see their home form as paramount in their quest to stay in the top flight.
SUBSTITUTES: Alexandre Lacazette, Rob Holding, Emiliano Martinez, Gabriel Martinelli, Kieran Tierney, Dani Ceballos, Lucas Torreira.
ARSENAL XI (4-2-3-1): Bernd Leno; Calum Chambers, Sokratis, David Luiz, Sead Kolasinac; Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka (c); Nicolas Pepe, Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
SUBSTITUTES: Billy Sharp, Phil Jagielka, Simon Moore, Muhamed Besic, Oliver McBurnie, Callum Robinson, Luke Freeman.
SHEFFIELD UNITED XI (3-5-2): Dean Henderson; Chris Basham, John Egan, Jack O'Connell; George Baldock, John Lundstram, Oliver Norwood (c), John Fleck, Enda Stevens; David McGoldrick, Lys Mousset.
And without further ado, let’s take a look at how both sides line up, starting with the hosts.
The players are out and kick-off is drawing near.
Emery will see the end of the first half as a sign that his players have it in them to equalise and eventually win, but a big performance after the interval will be required given Wilder’s team’s proclivity to defend effectively in these situations. Speaking of the Blades, more of the same and it wouldn’t be a complete shock if they managed to double their lead. An interesting second half awaits for both sides.
Sheffield United will look to build on their victory on Saturday as they look to take down another London club in the form of West Ham, while Arsenal will look to pick themselves up at home against Crystal Palace on the following day. The Gunners do have a European pitstop beforehand though, with a Thursday night Europa League group game against Vitoria Guimaraes to look forward to before they host the Eagles.
And that wraps up our coverage. We hope you enjoyed our commentary, and until next time, goodbye!
