Bournemouth enjoy some late pressure, as an Arter effort is deflected behind, but United look comfortable.
90' +1
There will be four minutes added on here.
89'
M. Depay enters the game and replaces W. Rooney.
Final change for United now, as Rooney makes way for Depay, who has a couple of minutes to make an impact.
86'
Ander Herrera gets yellow.
Out comes the yellow card now, as Herrera catches Arter a little late in midfield.
85'
M. Schneiderlin enters the game and replaces A. Martial.
Another United switch now, as Schneiderlin replaces his compatriot Martial, as Mourinho looks to shore things up.
84'
Arter's free-kick delivery is poor and United have little problem dealing with it, but the hosts remain on the front foot.
83'
Good play by Smith now, as the full-back comes inside and goes on a charging run. He holds off Herrera but is then fouled by the Spaniard, about 30 yards from goal.
81'
M. Gradel enters the game and replaces L. Cook.
Final change for Bournemouth now, as Gradel places Lewis Cook.
79'
United are still getting forward in numbers even at this relatively late stage. Fellaini gets himself involved, bring the ball down on his chest, before flicking it over Arter's head in style, keeping the move alive. He has been good today, the Belgian.
Minute
Description
77'
Good play again by Martial. The winger has caused Smith and Francis plenty of issues today. This time he produces a couple of stepovers and then prods a pass into the area for Rooney, but his touch is poor and Bournemouth clear.
75'
H. Mkhitaryan enters the game and replaces Mata.
Mata's day comes to an end with 15 minutes to go, with Mkhitaryan on in his place. A Premier League debut for the Armenian.
73'
That's a bit of a waste. Mata breaks forward and looks for the run of Martial, but his pass is just too far ahead of the Frenchman, who looks unimpressed.
71'
After a rather manic few minutes, things have calmed down a little again. United seem to be trying to take the sting out of things following a brief increase in noise from the home fans, but Bournemouth are battling away.
69'
A. Smith has scored a goal for AFC Bournemouth! Assist by L. Grabban.
Excellent play by Grabban the sub, as he holds off two defenders and produces a clever pass to Smith.
GOAL!!! BOURNEMOUTH PULL ONE BACK! Grabban holds the play up well on the edge of the box and produces a clever reverse pass into the area for Smith. He cuts on to his left foot and rifles an unstoppable effort into the top-right corner.
68'
B. Afobe enters the game and replaces J. Ibe.
And the other switch sees Ibe's debut come to an end. Afobe replaces him.
67'
L. Grabban enters the game and replaces C. Wilson.
The first of two Bournemouth changes now sees Grabban replace Wilson in attack.
66'
It's fair to say that this game has been put to bed now and it's very much a case of damage limitation for the hosts now. This already looks like a Manchester United we never really saw last season.
64'
Z. Ibrahimović has scored a goal for Manchester United! Assist by A. Martial.
Assist Anthony Martial
GOAL!!! IBRAHIMOVIC HAS HIS GOAL! Once again Martial is at the centre of things, as he pops up in a central position and just leaves the ball for the Swede. The enigmatic striker lines it up and drives a low effort into the bottom-left corner from some 30 yards.
63'
SAVED! After a bit of a delay Ibrahimovic eventually takes the free-kick and his effort is a decent one, but Boruc palms it away with a good stop.
61'
Excellent play by Martial. He charges forward towards the centre, coming across a couple of defenders and then eventually drawing a foul from Arter on the edge of the box.
59'
W. Rooney has scored a goal for Manchester United! Assist by A. Martial.
He definitely didn't mean it to be an assist, as Martial's volley is driven into the ground and acts as the perfect set-up for Rooney, but he won't care!
GOAL!!! UNITED HAVE A SECOND! Valencia wrestles with King out on the right and eventually comes out on top. He picks out Martial, whose half-volley crashes into the ground and sits up nicely for Rooney, who nods past the helpless Boruc.
58'
Poor play by Bailly, as he misses the ball while trying to control a pass inside from Valencia. Ibe pounces and runs at Blind, but the defender stands up to him brilliantly and steals the ball back.
57'
United do look quite purposeful in attack, something you would have rarely said last term, but on a few occasions today they wasted things at the last, with Herrera on this occasion passing way back to Valencia, bringing the move to an end.
55'
Better now from Bournemouth, as Wilson battles his way across the edge of the United area and eventually finds Ibe after seeing his chance pass by. The former Liverpool man twists, turns and eventually gets a shot away, but Blind does well to block it.
53'
NO PENALTY! Bournemouth aren't helping themselves here. Martial robs Francis and darts towards goal, looking for the one-two with Ibrahimovic. The Swede's return pass actually finds Rooney and he darts into the area, going down under apparent contact from Surman, but replays certainly don't produce much evidence of a foul.
51'
Brilliant play by Ibrahimovic, as he produces an outrageous flick over the Bournemouth defence to find the run of Rooney. He shrugs off Steve Cook but fails to beat Boruc. That should have been 2-0.
50'
King is down in a heap now, with the home fans clearly unhappy that he wasn't awarded a free-kick after getting clattered into by Bailly, but it was a fair tackle.
48'
Lovely touch in midfield by Lewis Cook, as his first-time flick deceives Fellaini and finds Surman, who opts to charge forward. He overruns it, though, throws himself to the floor and asks for a free-kick. The referee isn't having any of it.
46'
We're back out for the second half, with Bournemouth looking for a reaction.
45' +3
HALF-TIME!
45' +1
There will be two minutes to add on here.
44'
Bournemouth are enjoying some late pressure just before the break, as they look to go into half-time level, but United are defending well, as Fellaini nods away a decent cross from Ibe.
42'
It's fair to say that Mata's future at United has been rather uncertain all summer due to his previous relationship with Mourinho and then getting subbed off as a substitute last week, but he's not done himself any harm here so far today.
40'
Mata has scored a goal for Manchester United!
GOAL!!! UNITED HAVE THE LEAD! And by a curious quirk of fate, the man to score the first goal of the Mourinho era in the Premier League for United is Juan Mata! Francis doesn't get enough on a back-pass and the Spaniard pounces. His effort is saved by Boruc, but it rebounds back on to the Bournemouth defender and the United man is there to tap in.
39'
The free-kick comes to little, but King manages to keep it alive out on the right. He knocks the ball through Fellaini's legs and manages to take both he and Shaw out of the game for a couple of seconds and he is then dumped on to the floor by Herrera, though the Spaniard manages to get away with it.
37'
Free-kick now to Bournemouth out on the left flank, as Daniels is tripped by Herrera. This is a good opportunity for the hosts to get the ball into the area now. They were excellent at set-pieces last term.
35'
Martial hasn't really been used enough so far. He does eventually get himself on the ball, running at Smith and cutting a pass back to Rooney, but the resulting shot is blocked behind for a corner. Once again, though, the delivery is dealt with easily by Boruc.
33'
A good spell for Bournemouth comes to an end as Arter finds space in midfield and opts to try his luck from distance. He goes well over.
31'
Herrera is starting to take charge and he picks out a lovely pass forward to pick out the run of Martial, but Smith comes across well and produces a fine sliding tackle to halt the danger.
29'
Valencia is again causing trouble on the right, as he receives a pass from Mata after a prolonged period of possession. He runs at King and knocks the ball off him and behind for a corner, though the set-piece comes to nothing, as Boruc plucks Mata's delivery out of the air with ease.
27'
SAVE! Lovely move by United. Herrera carves Bournemouth open, playing a pass in behind Daniels for Valenca to run on to. He cuts it back to Mata, who in turn finds Rooney to the left, but his first-time effort is smothered by Boruc.
25'
United are starting to show signs of taking control in midfield, as they force Bournemouth back and begin to probe around the area. The hosts are doing well to keep them at bay at the moment, though.
23'
Lewis Cook finds himself robbed in midfield, with Fellaini looking to Rooney to begin a counter-attack. However, the new signing from Leeds tracks back brilliantly and wins the ball again from the United captain.
21'
Good play by King, as he tussles with Valencia and manages to win possession back by the corner flag. He then wins a throw in an advanced position off Mata.
19'
Neither side has really got going here, to be honest. United's creative players are struggling to make much of a difference, with Blind opting to play it long to Ibrahimovic on more than one occasion, while Bournemouth are yet to successfully carve through their visitors' backline.
17'
Free-kick to United now just outside their own area, as Blind is accidentally tripped by Wilson as the pair tussle. The Dutchman will be relieved, as he was struggling there.
15'
Good play by Valencia, who darts up the right flank and sticks a deep cross into the area. Ibrahimovic throws himself towards the ball and flattens both Francis and Smith, conceding a free-kick in the process.
13'
Jeers ring out around the stadium now, as Bailly clatters into King and leaves him in a heap on the floor, but it's a free-kick to United. The incident happened just after the referee had blown for a foul on Valencia.
11'
Bournemouth will likely be the happier of the two teams here so far. United haven't had any genuinely meaningful possession in the final third, while the hosts themselves have put together a few decent passing moves.
9'
Better from United now, as Herrera links with Blind and the centre-back picks out Rooney. The captain feeds Martial up the left, with the Frenchman running at Smith and then cutting a pass back to the England skipper. The move peters out in the end, as the visitors lose momentum, but that was an indication of Martial's potential involvement today. He looks bright.
7'
Bournemouth have settled a little more now, knocking pass around and producing some good interchanges out wide. They lose the ball due to a wayward Francis pass, but they squeeze high and force United to pass back to De Gea.
5'
UNITED ESCAPE! Bournemouth do well to attack up the left, as Arter releases Daniels with a good through pass. The full-back delivers a decent cross, which Shaw should deal with. But he opts to try and control it and his touch is heavy, allowing Wilson to get into a good position, but he just about gets back and forces the attacker to slice wide.
3'
It's evident so far that United aren't shy of pressing high up the pitch. Bournemouth are struggling to get out of their own half at the moment, with the visitors really showing good intensity so far.
1'
Off we go! United get things started.
Hello and welcome to the LIVE coverage of the Premier League encounter between Bournemouth and Manchester United. I will be describing the action for you today, as Eddie Howe's young side look to build on a fine debut campaign in the top flight by starting this season in the best possible fashion. It won't be easy, though, as today their visitors to the Vitality Stadium are led by Jose Mourinho, in what will be the Portuguese coach's first league game in charge of United after a summer of upheaval.
First of all, let's introduce the teams...
Manchester United starting XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Shaw; Fellaini, Herrera; Mata, Rooney, Martial; Ibrahimovic.
Bournemouth starting XI (4-3-3): Boruc; Francis, Smith, Steve Cook, Daniels; Surman, Arter, Lewis Cook; Ibe, Wilson, King.
Man United subs: Romero, Rojo, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Depay, Mkhitaryan, Rashford.
It was a generally good close-season for Bournemouth, who not only managed to retain the services of highly-rated manager Eddie Howe, but they only really saw one major first-team player leave in Matt Ritchie. Otherwise it was a positive couple of months, particularly with regards to some of their buys. Jordon Ibe and Lewis Cook, regarded by many as two of England's best younger prospects, arrived from Liverpool and Leeds United respectively and will provide plenty of technical ability.
Both Ibe and Cook come straight into the team for their debuts, with the latter of course playing in his very first Premier League game. He will play alongside Arter and Surman in a busy midfield, while the ex-Liverpool youngster comes into the attack with Josh King and Callum Wilson. You won't find many quicker trios in the division than that front three!
Unsurprisingly, though, the build-up to this match has been focused on Manchester United. Initially the world-record signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus stole the headlines, before the FA then revealed the France international would be suspended for today's game due to picking up two bookings in last season's Coppa Italia. However, there are a few other reasons for so much United-based attention.
Yes, Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Portuguese coach joined United in June after weeks of speculation, replacing the disappointing Louis van Gaal. One of his first moves was to bring in the charismatic Swede after his contract at PSG ended and the striker has already captured the imagination of supporters and neutrals alike, with his personality particularly prominent in a pre-season which didn't include many appearances for him.
In fact, Ibrahimovic has already made a telling contribution to United's trophy cabinet, netting the winner in last week's Community Shield against Leicester City. He says he has come to score, to win and leave; it wasn't a bad start. He isn't the only new signing to start today, though. Eric Bailly, brought in from Villarreal, slots in at centre-back next to Daley Blind and he'll be looking to build on an excellent debut against Claudio Ranieri's champions
However, Henrik Mkhitaryan and has to be content with a place on the bench, alongside the likes of Memphis Depay and Marcus Rashford. Mourinho certainly won't be able to complain about a lack of options waiting in reserve.
The players are now out on the pitch with kick-off just a few moments away.
The referee brings the first half to a close, with United edging things and taking a 1-0 lead into the break. In truth it was a pretty tepid 45 minutes, with little goalmouth action and mostly just lots of huffing and puffing in midfield. In the end it was a silly individual error from Francis - helped by a slice of luck - which gifted the visitors and Mata the lead, but this is by no means over.
Well, well, well, Jose Mourinho gets off to a winning start in charge of Manchester United. It rarely looked in doubt to be honest, with the visitors in charge once they went ahead. Juan Mata was the one to break the deadlock, in rather fortuitous circumstances, before Wayne Rooney and debutant Ibrahimovic rounded things off. Bournemouth showed some fight and spirit, but were simply outclassed by United, who already look far more purposeful than they did last term. How times change!
